This is a mental re-birthing space where various perspectives on Blackness are shared.
Lena Horne was actually one of my role models growing up - even though I'm not African-American. She was such a class act. I always resented it when people called her cold when in fact she was full of passion and love for others. She endured a lot - and while others thought she had a poker face - I saw the emotional pain just under the surface. Guess it takes a person who has experienced great pain to recognize it in another. Ms. Horne had an incredible life and saw a lot of positive change - of which she chose to be a driving force to help make that change. Hers was a life well lived. Oh, that all of us could make that same claim when our lives end here and we move on to our next soul assignment. What a wonderful blog you have here, so rich!
