My father was a clerk in WWII and when I was young, he showed me a copy of a memo he'd been required to type that went to white commanding officers on how to treat "Negro" soldiers. The memo likened black men to "children" who required parenting and firm direction and said some other demeaning things. It really disturbed him and so he kept a copy and held onto it for years. But it was lost in Hurricane Katrina.

I like this vintage video. It's good/important to remind people of black people who've served their country, especially during our current time when some people on the right would like to paint all black people as "anti-American."
